FAQ
Understanding Digital Packaging
Digital packaging refers to all digital content accessible from a physical product. It enriches packaging with additional information (product information, regulations, usage, brand content) accessible via a QR code, RFID tag or other access points.
A digitalized in-store display gives access to additional digital content from physical media (shelf talkers, posters, displays), extending in-store information without screens.
All products can be digitalized: food, cosmetics, wines & spirits, personal care, consumer goods or technical products. Digital packaging is especially relevant for regulated products or international markets.
Yes. QR codes are used for regulatory information, traceability and brand content while preserving label design.
QR codes are the most common access point, but other technologies can be used: enriched QR codes, RFID, NFC, short links or unique identifiers.
An enhanced QR code can link multiple types of information to a single code and adapt content based on context, country or user.
Regulations & Transparency
Product information is regulated depending on the sector: composition, allergens, origin, environmental impact and traceability. Digital packaging complements mandatory information without replacing it.
The Digital Product Passport is a European initiative providing access to product lifecycle data such as composition, origin, reparability and recyclability, requiring well-structured product data.
Origin’Info is a French initiative designed to improve transparency about the origin of raw materials in food products. Digital packaging makes this information clearer and easier to update.
Yes. The food industry is impacted by evolving consumer information requirements, transparency on origin and composition, and upcoming European regulations.
The DPP will gradually apply to sectors such as textiles, electronics, batteries, durable goods and industries with high environmental impact.
Absolutely. Qezako is designed to anticipate European standards such as the Digital Product Passport (DPP). Our solution allows you to dynamically display mandatory information (labels, origin, recycling) that no longer fits on physical packaging, while remaining compliant with GS1 traceability requirements.
Marketing & Customer Experience
QR codes should be placed in visible areas, with clear explanatory text, sufficient contrast, and away from folds or distortions.
Yes. When a QR code points to a content platform, information can be updated at any time without changing printed packaging.
Yes. Digital packaging can include traceability data such as origin, batch numbers, quality data or market-specific information.
Yes. Digital packaging can enable product registration, warranty activation and access to after-sales services.
Yes. Digital packaging is well suited for explanatory videos, how-to tutorials, practical tips or brand content.
The Qezako Solution: Management & Data Sovereignty
Yes. Our platform is built to integrate into your ecosystem. Through our APIs, Qezako can connect to your Product Information Management (PIM) systems or logistics databases to automate data flow to your QR Codes.
Of course. Qezako’s architecture is designed for large-scale management. You can control dozens of different ranges from a single dashboard, with the ability to segment content by product type, brand, or geographic area.
That is the core strength of the Digital Link. Unlike a static QR code, a Qezako QR code is dynamic. You can update a video, correct regulatory information, or change a promotional offer in one click from your back-office—even if the product is already on the shelf.
Qezako provides a centralised management interface that acts as a content hub. Instead of juggling multiple files, you gather all your text, visuals, videos, and traceability data in one place. This ensures total information consistency across all your touchpoints (Packaging and POS).
Yes, and it is highly recommended. Qezako allows you to use your own domain name (e.g., scan.yourbrand.com) for your GS1 Digital Link QR Codes.
Why is this important?
Trust: Consumers feel more secure seeing a familiar brand name when they scan a product.
Branding: You maintain total consistency across all touchpoints, from physical packaging to digital experience.
SEO & Ownership: You retain full ownership of your traffic and strengthen your main domain’s authority.
This is where the power of the GS1 Digital Link standard truly shines. Unlike closed proprietary solutions, Qezako is built on interoperability and business continuity:
Link Ownership: By using your own domain name (e.g., scan.yourbrand.com), you remain the owner of the address printed on your packaging.
Guaranteed Checkout Scanning: Even if Qezako were no longer there, your GS1 Digital Link QR Codes remain fully readable at checkout and by all B2B logistics tools. The “Barcode” component of the QR Code is universal and independent of our platform.
Total Portability: You can redirect your subdomain to another solution or your own server at any time. Your QR Codes, printed on millions of products, will continue to work seamlessly.
In summary: With Qezako, your supply chain is protected. You retain total control over your industrial assets, without any risk of sales disruptions.
The GS1 Digital Link Standard
A standard QR Code contains only a static URL. The GS1 Digital Link is a global standard that allows a single code to be “multilingual”: it can be read by a supermarket scanner (for the price), by a logistics provider (for the batch), and by a consumer (for the Qezako Story). It is the intelligent evolution of the barcode.
Not necessarily. The transition can be gradual. Qezako helps you integrate the Digital Link into your new production runs. The goal is to be ready for the 2027 deadline, when global point-of-sale scanners will be widely compatible.
Yes. For the consumer, it is scanned exactly like a regular QR Code, with no special app required. The magic of the GS1 standard is that it automatically redirects the user to the appropriate content (your Qezako Story) while remaining compatible with retail laser scanners.
Absolutely. By using the GS1 standard via Qezako’s secure platform, you retain full ownership and control of your data. Unlike free QR code generators, you have the guarantee that your links will never break and that the information remains certified by your brand.
GS1 provides the technical standard (the rules), but Qezako provides the full business solution to operate it.
The exclusive benefits of Qezako:
The Customer Experience: GS1 generates a raw link. Qezako creates an interactive Story (videos, tutorials, polls) fully optimised for mobile.
Branding & Trust: Unlike standard tools, Qezako allows you to customise your domain name (e.g., scan.yourbrand.com). Consumers scan a link they recognise, significantly increasing trust.
Marketing Control: Our back-office allows you to change the code’s destination in one click (e.g., switching from a promotion to a traceability video) without ever changing the printed QR Code.
Bulk Management by Product Range: The GS1 generator is a manual, one-by-one tool. Qezako is an industrial platform capable of managing and updating hundreds of thousands of references simultaneously by product range.
Hosting & Analytics: We provide secure, high-speed hosting and detailed scan analytics that basic tools simply cannot offer.
